I had a nuclear stress test four days ago. A loved one is in the hospital right now and will be giving birth within the next 24 hours. Is it safe for me to be close to the mom to be? Is it safe for me to be close to the newborn baby when she’s born?

My mom was in the same situation, and she was told to stay away from my baby for 24 hours. Still, with a newborn, i’d try to stay away loner.

If you just had a newborn child, and before the nurses take it away, is it wrong to mark the baby? That way, if the nurses mix it up, you can tell if there’s a mistake or someone swapped it.

If you do mark it, in what way should it be done?

Most times, a bracelet is put around the ankle of the baby that matches the mother and fathers bracelet before they even take it to the nursery. Then, every time the baby is brought back to your room, the numbers on each bracelet will be checked to make sure they match up.

However, I’m not sure how anyone would NOT know they were brought the wrong baby. I could recognize my kids as soon as I first saw them. Or, better, yet, just never let the baby out of your sight. Anything they do in the nursery can be done in your room, or someone can always go with the baby when he/she is in the nursery. Much better than marking on your baby’s delicate newborn skin with a magic marker or something.

I found a baby rabbit & my dog killed its mom & all its siblings but this one lived. I have been feeding it newborn milk i got from the pet store & i have been keeping it in a box with a blanket. It was the runt of the litter so it is really small it is only 3 or 4 days old. Everyone keeps saying it probably wont survive but i am hoping it will. I was just wondering if there was anything else i should do for it.

that is a shame for that little bunny but the first ting you should do is to take the rabbit to the vets to clear unwanted pest on your rabbits like lice and flees and the vet could also give him/her an injection or 2 becouse he is a wild rabbit and may need his vhd or myxamotosis but for info on bassic housing and feeding reed the following text:

WHERE TO PUT THE BABIES

Make the babies a soft nest area in a box with clean towels. We like to put one folded towel on the bottom and another bunched on top of that, so the babies can snuggle into it. You can also purchase soft nesting wool from a pet store and put that on top of the towel. Cover the box with a towel so it is dark, making sure that there will be enough air so the babies do not suffocate. Leaving about a one inch gap at the top is usually sufficient. Keep the babies in an out-of-the way, QUIET area, such as an adult’s bedroom. If the room temperature is between 68-72 degrees you will not need to provide extra heat, but if it’s cooler than that you will need to provide extra warmth. Use a heating pad set on low and slip it under one half only of the bottom towel in the box. We do it this way so that the babies can move to a cooler area if it gets too warm. ALWAYS make sure that the heating pad is covered, as babies can burn themselves very badly on an exposed heating pad.

If the babies were with their mamma, but she is not caring for them (and you are sure she is ignoring them) you will need to separate her from them, so they will not get hurt. If she has created a nest, use that material in the box that you have made to hold the babies. Rabbits nurse only ONE TIME a day, so if you think that she is not caring for them based only on the fact you don’t see them feed…think again. But if you are sure she is neglecting them, if they are dehydrated, cold, obviously ignored, of course, something must be done!

WHAT TO FEED THE BABIES

Baby rabbits should be fed Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR), which you can buy at pet stores, or sometimes even a local veterinarian’s office. Because rabbit milk is the most caloric of all mammals, we add in one tablespoon of cream to each can of KMR. Unless you are familiar with and skilled at tube feeding babies, use an eye dropper or sterile oral syringe, which can be purchased at most pharmacies. Feed baby rabbits no more than twice a day. Baby rabbits normally feed only ONCE a day, but you’re not mama and the KMR is not as caloric as rabbit milk—so if baby does not take in the total amount quoted below in one feeding, you may split the feedings in half, AM/PM – but no more frequently as it can cause severe gastrointestinal distress. Overfeeding is a leading cause of death in infant [domestic] rabbits.

If this is a wild rabbit, handle it ONLY during feedings and make sure to keep it in a quiet, safe, out-of-the-way area of your home, as excessive handling and human interaction can be extremely stressful and potentially fatal, and will lessen its chance or survival once released back into the wild.

Following is a guideline for the daily amount to feed a domestic OR wild rabbit who will be approximately 5-6 pounds as an adult (average rabbit size). You can increase the amounts as needed for larger breeds. Remember, if the rabbit does not eat the full amount listed, feed the remainder later, but do not feed more than twice a day.

For the BEST results, go to your local health food store (GNC has this) and get a bottle of ACIDOPHILUS. Ask for the capsules that have the "grainy stuff" inside (they are easier to mix than the “powdery stuff”) and add it to the KMR at each feeding.

Using acidophilus in addition to KMR will GREATLY increase the baby rabbit’s chance of survival, because it helps keep the bacterial balance in a baby’s tummy adequate.

thank u and gud luck

Never. Mostly because I breast-fed, but also he just didn’t hear them. He had to get up and go to work and I stayed home at least at first, so there was never a question of sharing. Of course, this was back when daddy’s weren’t so involved. If I hadn’t had twins I’m sure he wouldn’t have helped at all.

I would like a serious list of all the things you need to buy for a newborn. I understand that you need a cot, pram, car seat, baby bath etc, but i just want to make sure that i don’t miss anything. Also would you be able to steer away from disposable nappies and anything that isn’t organic.

A good idea Is to hold a baby shower and ask family and friends who are mums. Ask them in the invite to get what they needed in the first three months instead of clothes and toys.

I found we needed very little and had wayyy to much.

Clothes – sleep suits in 00000 (I had seven) they are only in them for a short time and you can wash them. Get most clothes in 0000
Nappys – there are some great washable ones that look like disposables and fasten easily. You will need liners for these and it’s a good idea to have a couple disposables on hand for when you venture out.
Baby/sensitive washing powder – espically if you use cloth nappies
Wipes – unsented
Rash cream – zinc based
Baby bath – soap free
Massage oil
Blankets – Muslim wraps for swaddling, something warmer like fleece or cotton for over. I had six Muslims and four warmer cottons
Clothes- for your shoulder (throw up rags)

And of course the big things – cot, cot sheets (at least three, otherwise if they throw up you have nothing to put on there) and mattress protector, change mat, baby bath, play mat or play gym, sterilizer (microwaveable are great) dummies (if you intend to use them. Great way to satisfy bub for a few minutes while you get yourself out of bed and comfy ready for feeding – or get the bottle ready if you are bottle feeding) if you are bottle feeding you need bottles, nipples sutible for newborn and start stocking up on formula now as it is expensive. If breast feeding you need breast pads for leaking, a great maternity bra and a lanolin based nipple cream for cracked nipples. Also a good stock of maternity pads (you change them fairly often so I would say around six packets of ten)

Don’t forget you can always send dad/or grandma or next door neighbour if you have to out for anything you need.
I worked in a chemist and had many dads coming in with hasitly scribbled notes LOL

Bub doesn’t need much – somewhere to sleep, bath and bottom changed and plenty of love. Congrats and enjoy xx

Our dog is 10 years old, 37 lbs, mixed breed. She has never shown any signs of aggression towards toddlers or children. But she’s never been exposed to a newborn baby either. She loves all people and even though she would be considered an older dog she does not look it or have any problems sometimes associated with older dogs. She is the best dog I have ever had.

We have a 140 lb mastiff and a jack russell. The MOST IMPORTANT thing you must establish is that your dog does not think she is the dominant alpha in your family.Does she sleep on your bed, the sofa, or any other high place?Dogs understand order and dominance, and if she has always been at the same level as you, there may be problems with a new member joining the "pack." No matter how much we love our dogs and treat them like people, you must remember they are dogs and respond to animal cues. The whole idea of bringing home a doll is ridiculous because it will smell like plastic (not like your real baby!) We did not bring home anything with the baby’s scent on it.We just let the dogs sniff him, even lick him (just not excessively on the face,) be near him and acted normally when we brought him home. They were freaked out and curious when they heard him cry and squeak and got over that in a couple of weeks. You must pay attention to the dog when the baby is around, as someone else said, because if you only do that when the baby is sleeping, your dog will associate love and affection when the baby is absent. The challenge was when our 7 mo old son, not understanding what "gentle" meant, started pulling and poking at the ears and eyes of our jack russell.Although she’s a great dog, she obviously didn’t like being abused by him and she started baring her teeth when he crawled near.I had to immediately turn her over on her back in front of him to force her to be SUBMISSIVE to him.(This is DOG BEHAVIOR–cues they understand–not yelling or smacking on the butt–if you watch dogs play in a dog park you will see a dominant dog stand over a submissive one as the submissive one lays on his side or back.)I am very careful now not to let him hurt her, but she must always know that SHE is not dominant over him–she must submit to everyone in the family, including the baby.Since then, all has been fine.If your dog is sleeping in your bed or any other high position, I would suggest getting her a new dog bed with a new great toy and putting the bed next to your bed or nearby.Sorry this is long and I hope this helps! We love our dogs–they were our 1st babies!GOOD LUCK!
